Update from Steve’s Virtual Place

by Steve  | March 6th, 2009

I am a little behind on my posting this week.  My new lab equipment has arrived and I have spent the last couple of days getting moved in and configured.  Once I get done with that it will be time again to establish the automation so I can tear down and rebuild quickly at will.  In case I have not mentioned it before, I am a huge fan of automation and believe it is part of the cornerstone that makes a great admin great. But I digress… So I am going to have two different environments, or playgrounds to play in.  The first is a two node cluster running ESX 3.5 and I have another two node cluster that is running vSphere. I am really looking forward getting back under the hood and exploring new ways to make things better.

It seems in the professions of blogger, radio host ect, you share parts of you and your life, both the good and bad.  Here is part of mine to share.  What started as a really good week for me has taken a turn for the worse.  I got a phone call on Thursday that turned out to be one of those dreaded phone calls.  My aunt has gotten out the family phone tree to get the word out that my Grandfather had a heart attack and was in bad shape in the I.C.U. She went on to say that he was in such bad shape that we might want to consider hitting the road to South Carolina to get one last chance to see him.  I found out that he had a heart attack on Sunday but the hospital, at the time, did not find anything wrong with him and sent him home.  Once back home my Grandfather did not really seem to get much better and things came crashing down on Thursday.  The second phone call that same day from my Aunt was to let me know that he had just passed on.

I seem to be attending a lot of funerals lately as the sun sets on the older generations. It happens in a much quicker frequency, but it does not get any easier.   I reflect on all the good memories of him as well as other family members already passed, that have played such an important role in molding me into the person I am today. May he have a peaceful journey to his final resting place.

Steve,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. It is never easy for those who remain, but as you observed, death is a part of life. Take it as a reminder that our time here is short and should be cherished. Take time with your family. Treasure them - they are the most important things in your life.

Your friend,
KLC

Thanks Ken!! You are a great friend.
