The real impact of virtualization…today

by Matt  | January 29th, 2009

If you are reading this you more than likely think that virtualization is a good thing - as you should. Virtualization is not just a technology fad that will fade over time. Most of us realize that virtualization is a game changer. The problem is that most users are not equipped in some way to be as successful as their physical counterparts in some ways. Some of you may have all sorts of different views on that statement and may care to share a few choice words with me but a survey in December of 137 enterprises indicates that there is a great need in the market for better tools. Dwayne Melancon over on the Security and Compliance blog for Tripwire found this great article from Datamation that talks about the survey and the results.

We have talked to lots of different VI professionals over the past year. One thing is clear - most of the people you hear writing in blogs and on stage at VMWorld are those people that are fairly mature in their virtualization knowledge and their environments reflect that. But it seems like the masses are the people that have some virtualization but are not running a majority in production because they have their hands full with what they have. This survey seems to reflect the true masses.  So where are you in your environment and what do you need? Do you agree with the survey?
